AUGUST 7 IS the midway point of the summer season … so there’s still plenty of “hot fun in the summertime” days left to enjoy at the Crystal Coast.
Nothing compares to “those summer nights” and a walk on the beach.
According to archaeoastronomy.com, the Lughnasadh Cross Quarter occurs at 3:56 p.m. on Aug. 7, when the sun is halfway between the Summer Solstice and the Autumnal Equinox.
So, the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce is proclaiming that the glass of summer is half full.
Therefore, the chamber is encouraging visitors, vacationers and second home owners to come experience the rest of the summer season (post-Lughnasadh) along the Crystal Coast. Likewise, the chamber is encouraging its members and local residents to extend the “hand of hospitality” to guests. A simple wave of the hand can leave a favorable impression.
This is also the time of year when the chamber is accepting nominations for the annual “Outrageous Customer Service Awards.” Co-sponsors of the awards program are NCCOAST (publisher of the Island Review), Emerald Isle Beach & Pool Club and Carteret Community College.
It’s a talent search to recognize the true champions of customer service in Carteret County, those individuals on the front line who make the extra effort to aid customers or clients.
Anyone can make a nomination. Consider a co-worker who goes the extra mile or someone who has served you well. All you have to do is send an email to email@example.com or address a letter to the chamber at 801 Arendell St., Ste 1, Morehead City, NC 28557
Just describe in your own words why an individual is deserving. Tell us your story.
Then, by recognizing these customer service all-stars, the chamber shares these stories with the intent that the individual efforts will be emulated, causing our communities to excel as havens of excellence.
Past winners of Outrageous Customer Service Awards have included a bunch of people from Bogue Banks’ businesses, including:
Kathy, Linda and Liz from Bluewater Real Estate; Amy, Christy, Heidi and Sabrina from Emerald Isle Realty; Lani and Jeannie from Hot Wax Surf Shop; Becky from the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores; Donna from the Atlantis Lodge; Don from Kites Unlimited and Bird Stuff etc.; Mary from Watson-Matthews Real Estate; Barry from Roy’s Automotive; and Randy from White Swan Express of Atlantic Beach. Perhaps you know some of them and can vouch for their outrageousness.
But there is a deep pool of talent to select from. Pass along your recommendations for winners of the 2015 Outrageous Customer Service Awards.
As a final thought: Don’t disparage autumn when it gets here on Sept. 23. Many folks say the fall is their favorite season at the coast, when the breeze is a tad cooler and the skies get even bluer. Hope to see you then.
Mike Wagoner, President
Carteret County Chamber of Commerce
