Forget Boardwalk and Park Place. Forget railroads. When it comes to playing a board game the Topsail way, these well-known spaces are better replaced by the swing bridge, the Missiles and More Museum and the turtle hospital.
Meet Topsail-Opoly, a game designed by resident Grier Fleischauer.
The colorful board game features locations such as Serenity Point Duplex, Queen’s Grant Townhouse, Breezeway Motel, Sea Vista Motel and the Villa Capriana Condos. There’s shops on the board game that are local favorites too, including Topsail Island Trading Company and The Gift Basket, Quarter Moon Books & Gifts, Godwin’s New Topsail Market, Surf City Fishing Village, Patio Playground and Topsail Beach Skating Rink.
“We hope you will enjoy our game for many hours and have as much fun playing it as we did creating it,” said Fleischhauer.
“Anyone familiar with Topsail Island will chuckle with delight,” said Tammy Proctor, the director of the Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce. “Every detail of the game features the things we love about Topsail.”
Instead of Community Chest, the playing cards are Blackbeard’s Treasure Chest and Sand Dollar cards which instruct players to take a walk on the Jolly Roger Pier and collect $200 and Pay Beach Nourishment Tax of $50 or Donate $50 to the Turtle Hospital. Even the bank is called Blackbeard’s Booty Bank and the multi-colored money features missiles, towers, beach chairs and surfers.
Topsail-Opoly is available at The Topsail Island Trading Company and The Gift Basket.
