Concert at the Fort

We are always amazed each summer by the varied opportunities to take in a little live music will enjoying the great outdoors. It's almost too much to ask for really – the scenic beauty of the waterfront as a backdrop, the warm salt air and the sounds of live music wafting along on the breeze. But yet it's a surety each summer along the Crystal Coast, where summer concert series spring to life each season welcoming a host of local talent.

Downtown Morehead City Revitalization’s Alive at Five program holds concerts twice a month at Jaycee Park on the Morehead City waterfront. Always on a Friday, the concerts begin at 5pm. For more information, call 252-808-0440 or visit www.downtownmoreheadcity.com.

Also using Jaycee Park as the backdrop is the Morehead City Parks and Recreation Dept., which has long held a Saturday night concert through the summer months, with a bonus performance on July 4. Concerts run from 7-8:30pm. To learn more, call 252-726-5083.

With a beautiful historic backdrop, the Friends of Fort Macon bring music to the fort at 7pm on various Fridays evenings throughout the summer. For more information, call 252-726-3775.

At the other end of Bogue Banks, Emerald Isle’s EmeraldFest music series takes full advantage of those ocean breezes at the Western Ocean Regional Beach Access. Music runs from 6:30-8pm each Thursday through Aug. 20. To learn more, call 252-354-6350.

Neighboring Swansboro holds its own concert series, aptly named SwanFest. Running Sunday evenings through Sept. 13, concerts are held from 6:30-8pm at the pavilion at Olde Town Square along the downtown waterfront.

For any of the concerts mentioned, lawn chairs, blankets and other comfort items are welcome. Alcohol is prohibited although guests are welcome to bring non-alcoholic beverages and snacks to enjoy.
